David Tieman has been performing in both rock and jazz bands
for over 20 years. While pursuing his Bachelors Degree in Music, he was
involved in a wide range of professional performances. In 1996, David left his
hometown of Chicago to make Phoenix his home for the next 10 years. Recently,
he has relocated to the Seattle area to explore the incredible jazz scene. His
progression towards performing his original solo jazz arrangements and
compositions was a natural transition after years of studying and performing
challenging works of the masters like Joe Pass and Jim Hall. Although David
holds a strong love for jazz music, he has written over 50 unique and eclectic
compositions that span many styles.
David Tieman was the first guitarist to be accepted into the
Masters in Music Education program (Jazz concentration) at ASU in 1999. There, he studied with many great players...Chuck Mahronic, Christopher Champion, Dom Moio, Sam Pilafian, and others...but
left when he realized his passion was in writing and performing his own works.
With a particular interest in acoustic jazz and folk music, he is continually
working to push the boundaries in both his performances and writing style.
For the past 15 years, David has also taught private lessons to aspiring
guitar students. Working as a recording engineer, he has also helped produce
many independent CD releases for fellow indie artists. Currently, he runs a new songwriting contest called INDIE INTERNATIONAL He has performed countless shows, but these days, he performs regularly with
his wife, Jennifer Spector (a national award-winning songwriter and performer) as "The Hayburners"
